The heart of the world's largest clog production is in the east of the Netherlands, on the Grolseweg in Beltrum. This is where Paul Nijhuis took over from his father 40 years ago. Everything to do with wooden shoes has been in the Nijhuis family since 1938. From traditional wooden shoes to small souvenir clogs, everything is created in-house. When you are immersed in the Nijhuis story, you notice that wood runs through their blood. With love, passion, drive and professionalism, they work day in, day out to remain the best in the clog and souvenir business. And that is quite a challenge in the modern times we live in. National cultural heritage Clogs were traditionally widely worn in our country and are a distinctive icon for our tourists. Still are. Just like tulips and windmills. This is what millions of tourists refer to as Dutch identity icons, of which Nijhuis supplies a large part. Development & innovation The use of the most popular footwear our country has ever had, wooden shoes, has declined over the years. This has actually encouraged Nijhuis to be innovative. Always developing, innovating and staying sharp is what graces them and keeps them strong. From rock-solid products to ultramodern production techniques. The machines are developed and maintained in-house. Everything is devised in the Gelderland village, extensively tested and delivered after the production process to, among others, Dutch farmers, garden centres, souvenir shops and, of course, abroad. The range is marketed both as its own product and white label. When it comes to business gifts, various great Dutch brands also find a partner in Nijhuis. Feel free to ask for examples and possibilities! The Netherlands' biggest tourist attractions are major markets for wooden shoe manufacturer Nijhuis. Every year, for example, Keukenhof is coloured with metres of quality wooden shoes, the latest pride of Nijhuis Klompen. In beautiful colours and of very good quality wood, paint and finish, we have a tulip supplier in the Netherlands that delivers fresh supplies all seasons of the year.
Paul Nijhuis loves wooden shoes and has gathered a highly motivated team around him. The team of this world market leader works with great enthusiasm on their ‘heritage’ the wooden shoe. Team Nijhuis works full-time on the production of wooden shoes and various related products for the souvenir industry. Delivery reliability, quality and price are key issues. Nijhuis has its own production facilities in both the Netherlands and China. The combination of both sites is a very special one. After developing a new product, many metres are made in the Netherlands. Testing, fine-tuning, testing and making it even better. And then production to perfection. Only when everything has been thought through, processed to perfection and passes the test, the wooden products - made in the Netherlands - are sent to the team in China for finishing. There, the second team is supervised and trained to ensure the quality of this finishing that the family business values highly. Daily consultations with China are held via modern communication channels; the lines of communication are short, involved and pleasant. The fully finished products are sent out into the world from Beltrum. Welcome! We were pleased to take you through the Nijhuis story. For a more extensive introduction, you are of course welcome to visit our factory, warehouse and showroom in Gelderland.
